Parker Road/Highway 83 will experience intermittent safety closures the weekend of Oct. 26 and 27, as transmission lines for the PSCo/Xcel Energy Pawnee-Daniels Park Project are installed over the roadway. Parker Road traffic will be impacted just north of the intersection with Twenty Mile Road/Hilltop Road and drivers should expect rolling 15-minute road closures between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. while helicopters are used to pull the lines into place.
The road will reopen to traffic between flights, but alternate routes (such as Canterberry Parkway, Jordan Road or Chambers Road) are encouraged. Some area trails and parking lots will also be affected, which are shown on the closure map. If the work needs to be rescheduled due to weather, it will take place the following weekend, Nov. 2 and 3.
Construction is underway on the entire 20-mile segment of the Pawnee-Daniels Park project in Aurora and Parker between the new Harvest Mile Substation and the Daniels Park Substation. PSCo/Xcel Energy is in the process of installing temporary wooden structures where the new transmission lines will cross public roads and trails. These guard structures, which are temporary in nature, are designed to add an extra level of protection when PSCo/Xcel strings the new line and installs the transmission cable this fall. The structures will carry the cable over the road and prevent damage or harm should the cable drop or fall during installation. Helicopter work is now ongoing. The helicopters will be used at times during construction for pulling rope prior to stringing conductor (wire) on the project.
Once this work has been completed, PSCo/Xcel will restore those areas that have been disturbed and remove the temporary guard structures as part of this final phase of work.

PSCo/Xcel went through the Town of Parker's public hearing process and the Utility Use by Special Review and Site Plan were approved (PDF) by the Town Council on July 5, 2016 at a public hearing.
